The pair were admired by hundreds of doting park guests throughout the day as they pounced, napped and enjoyed bottles of warm milk in the Tiger Island cub display.

The two bundles of bounce currently weigh just five kilograms each, but as they enjoy a healthy diet and exercise program at Dreamworld these tiny ‘big cats’ will potentially weigh in excess of 200 kilograms once fully grown.

Considered one of the world’s leading tiger exhibits, Dreamworld’s Tiger Island is more than 1,600 square metres in size and features a 13 square metre pool, in which tigers swim throughout the day. The cats also enjoy a range of enrichment experiences from off-exhibit hideaways, guest experiences such as tiger walks, feeds and photos and new exhibit, The Lair.

Dreamworld visitors enjoy uninterrupted views of the tigers and handlers playing together from across the Tiger Island moat and the chance to walk alongside them at The Lair, the park’s new exotic animal exhibit.

With the addition of the two cubs, Dreamworld is now home to 15 tigers, including nine Bengal and six Sumatran tigers. The park also houses two cougars.

The Bengal cubs will be on full public display in Dreamworld’s tiger cub enclosure from Wednesday 4 April onwards and it is hoped they will begin guest encounters in the coming weeks.
Gold Coast Gondolas:

Sink back into a sheep-skin covered seat and meander through the Gold Coast canals in your very own private luxury gondola! Elegantly decorated with a beautifully appointed dining table, flowers, candle lantern, ice bucket and glasses. (Fleecy rugs are also provided in cooler weather.)

The world’s largest short film festival, Tropfest, is simulcast live from Sydney to the Big Screen at Circle on Cavill, one of the Gold Coast’s premier outdoor precincts.

The festival is one of Australia’s iconic cultural events, which began with humble beginnings in the early nineties in an inner city Sydney local, the ‘Tropicana Café’. Creator and founder John Polson quickly realised the event’s potential and set up the foundations for what is now the largest outdoor short film festival globally.

This year, a variety of food and beverage options will be made available for Tropfest guests from the comfort and convenience of your own seat.
Alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages will be available from the bar on the day, for consumption within the event zone.

But if your planning on spending some beach time on your next Gold Coast holiday it’s important to be aware of some water safety basics. (beach safety tips provided by the Gold Coast city council website)

NEVER:

Swim alone or surf at beaches not patrolled by Lifeguards or Lifesavers
Bathe outside the red and yellow flags that mark safe swimming areas
Bathe directly after a meal or under the influence of alcohol
Bathe when the beach is closed. (Observe the sign "Danger- Reserve closed to bathing" and the red flag)
Bathe when there are no safety flags
Panic if caught in a current or undertow, but raise one arm straight up and float until help arrives
Struggle if seized with a cramp, but raise one arm for help, float and keep the affected part of the body still
Go out far when a yellow flag is flying- it means the surf is dangerous
Bathe if unsure of safe conditions, but seek advice of the nearest Lifeguard
Struggle against a rip or current, but swim diagonally across it.

ALWAYS:

Swim between the red & yellow flag on patrolled beaches
Read the Flags and Safety Signs and understand what they mean before entering the water.

And, don’t forget to ‘Slip-Slop-Slap’ and drink plenty of water on those hot summer days!

Enjoy our beautiful beaches! Happy New Year everyone!
If you can you’re pretty clever … almost as clever as Australia’s best sand sculptors who will be molding and shaping the sand on the Surfers Paradise foreshore on Saturday the 11th of February 2012 from 9:00am.

Come along and be amazed at the works, which will be built up over several days and displayed on the foreshore for a further week.

If you’ve ever tried to build a sandcastle with the kids at the beach, you’ll appreciate the talent and effort that goes into these oversized sand creations that’ll be on display.

With the recent beach closures and ocean conditions we thought it would also be a good time to remind everyone to play it safe this summer. Later in the week, we’ll post some beach safety tips. But for now – remember to swim between the flags - and have a great week everyone.

There are three main precincts in Surfers Paradise, all within walking distance, which is great if you want to split your night over a few different venues.

Orchid Avenue is the main strip for nightclubs and adult entertainment, with Avenue, The Drink, Ruby Tramp, MyBar, Crazy Horse Cabaret & Bar, Shooters, Cocktails and Dreams, Hollywood Showgirls, Players Showgirls, Sin City, twenty1 bar, The Bedroom (and a police station) with most open until the wee hours.

On Cavill Avenue you'll find the local favourite Melbas where the city comes into its own with sexy waitstaff, cheesy dance tunes and platform dancing a must. If that's not enough, you can dance the night away at Elsewhere Bar or Escape Bar & Club which has a great view of Surfers Paradise beach. Also on Cavill is the Bavarian Haus beer hall, Fiddlers Green Irish Bar and, continuing the Irish theme, O'Malleys Irish Pub and Kitty o'Shea's at the beach end of Cavill Mall.

If all this sounds too much to negotiate unassisted, you can sign up for a pub crawl tour and attack the city's best drinking haunts in the company of like-minded souls.

For a more relaxed pace, head for Circle on Cavill or Chevron Renaissance. Both offer a mix of stylish alfresco restaurants and retail shopping in nice surrounds. Landsdowne Road Irish Tavern in Chevron Renaissance has a fun atmosphere with some outdoor seating and sport on the screen inside. Across the road from the Chevron precinct, the Clock Hotel on Surfers Paradise Boulevard has an outdoor beer garden that's ideal for watching everyone else go about their business while you drink beer.

In the Circle on Cavill precinct, Foxy Brown is a hip cocktail bar ideal for those who like a little conversation with their drinking while those who like their drinks extra cold will enjoy Minus 5 ice lounge & Vodka bar where patrons don furry-hooded coats and gloves to drink icy cold vodka from a glass made of ice served from a bar of ice .. we think you get the idea.

Titanium Bar, the official off-field venue of the Gold Coast Titans NRL team, is a sports bar and restaurant overlooking the Nerang River in Surfers Paradise. Catch the big game on the plasmas or nab a couch on the river deck. Your best chance of catching a glimpse of the mighty Titans is after home games.

Away from the main precinct but well worth the short cab ride is Swingin' Safari (Thursdays to Sundays), a house-come-club that's a marked departure from all other venues on the Coast. More like a big house party, the venue takes the form of a 70s beach shack complete with all the kitsch furnishings. Sit on a sofa lounge, raid the dress-up box, or play ping-pong in the back yard. There's a bar and DJ spinning the likes of Billy Jean or wherever the mood takes things.

About the Coolangatta Gold

September 25, 2011

Surfers Paradise to Coolangatta

THE Coolangatta Gold is one of the most gruelling physical events on the planet and it is now run annually on the beaches of the Gold Coast.
Each year the event continues to grow in popularity - a record 500 competitors took part in individual and team events from Australia, Japan, South Africa, New Zealand, France, Britain and the US contested the Coolangatta Gold in 2009.
The men's race begins with a 23km surf ski leg from Surfers Paradise to Greenmount before the return north that includes a beach run of 0.65km from Greenmount to Coolangatta; a 3.5km surf swim to Bilinga; a 4km beach run to Currumbin and a 5.5km board paddle to Burleigh Heads before the final torturous 10km beach run Burleigh Heads to Surfers Paradise.
The team race follows the same course with each team made up of a ski paddler, runner, swimmer and board paddler.
The women's event is over a shortened course, beginning with a 10km surf ski leg from Greenmount to Currumbin followed by a 5.5km board paddle to Burleigh Heads, a 2.50km surf swim to Miami before the final 7.5km run back to Surfers Paradise for a total distance of 25.5km. Although, there is a push from the female athletes themselves to lengthen this course.
The Junior Coolangatta Gold, run in Surfers Paradise, is 2km and is open to U14, U15 and U17 age categories.
Surf Life Saving Australia's surf sports general manager Grant Baldock aptly describes the event as two races: ``There are those who race to win and there are those who race to finish. We are seeing growth in both areas.''
The winning male takes home $20,000 in prizemoney and the female winner $10,000.
Around 2000 spectators packed Surfers Paradise beach to catch the start and finish while thousands more lined the 23km stretch from Greenmount to cheer on competitors.
